    Description

The training for Designated Person Ashore (DPA) under the ISM Code is conducted to provide an understanding of the International Safety Management Code, commonly known as the ISM Code. This code is an international safety management framework that regulates the safe operation of ships and the protection of the marine environment. The ISM Code is governed by Chapter IX-1 of SOLAS 74, IMO Resolution No. A741 (18), and Amendment MSC 104 (73). The ISM Code is mandatory and has been in effect since July 1, 1998. For shipping companies that have implemented the ISM Code, an ISM Code Certificate known as the Document of Compliance (DOC) is issued, and for ships that have implemented the ISM Code, an ISM Code Certificate known as the Safety Management Certificate (SMC) is issued.

The implementation of the ISM Code in Indonesia is based on the Decree of the Director General of Sea Transportation No. PY.67/1/6-96 dated July 12, 1996.

To ensure the effective implementation of the ISM Code in companies and on ships, a shore-based person is appointed to be responsible for the implementation of the ISM Code, referred to as the Designated Person Ashore (DPA). The DPA must understand ship safety aspects, environmental protection, and the training requirements mandated for the DPA.
